As I continue my travels east along the Gulf of Thailand, it’s time for the beach and my first (and definitely not my last) Thai island destination…Koh Samet. I’m going to admit, I don’t have a ton of photos (despite being here for 3 full days). A 45 minute ferry ride gets you from Ban Phe to the island, and this is when you are thankful for having rubbed the Buddha’s belly for good luck in Pattaya. Because for $2.50 Canadian, you aren’t travelling on a vessel built in the last 20 years…you need some of that luck to ensure you get across safely 😂
But I’ll tell you, any worries you might have getting on the ferry (and yes mom, we all wore our life jackets) melt away when you see the colour of the sea!
Koh Samet (also spelled Koh Samed), is a relatively undeveloped island, from a tourist standpoint, and it is a National Park. I had a daily ritual of going to a specific sea-side cafe and after ordering my requisite beverage, enjoyed hours of people watching, reading and just chilling by the sea. Koh Samet was a nice few days of relaxing, recharging and taking care of some travel admin…I was definitely on Island Time.

The pictures you did take were breathtaking—quality not quantity!
It looks like you are having a wonderful time and taking it all in 🙂 Enjoy! I hope you get a chance to venture to Koh Samui and try some diving – even just a beginner course (couple hours) will get you about 30ft under the sea. Looking forward to the next post!
Koh Samui is definitely on my must visit list – but maybe not until December or January!! I’ve heard nothing but great things.
I can smell the salt air!
