Charming Chanthaburi

So back on mainland Thailand, I headed further east to the sleepy, yet charming, city of Chanthaburi – well off the radar of the average tourist. This is a very unique town, influenced by Thai, Chinese and Vietnamese cultures – and boasts Thailand’s largest church. On the weekends, the streets around the river turn into a trading and selling zone for gem enthusiasts that arrive from all parts of Asia. I stayed at a Historic Inn along the waterfront and enjoyed yummy breakfasts, leisurely days roaming the city and hiking in a local National Park (which deserves its own separate blog post).

Places of Worship

Within a 20 minute walk of my Inn you could find a Cathedral, several Buddhist temples and 5 Chinese temples.

Architecture

And the streets were filled with the architecture of the many cultures it houses.
