After my volunteering experience, I set out to complete the Mae Hong Son Loop. This is a route of about 600km through the mountains of northwest Thailand – with a starting and ending point in Chiang Mai. The adventurous (and more dangerous) way to complete this journey is by motorcycle, but you aren’t going to see me on a motorbike this trip – I don’t want to test the limits of my medical insurance 😂 . So instead, I am doing the journey by mini van (more to come on how I travelled in my next post). It took me a week and a half to complete the loop and along the way I stopped to enjoy the sights in Pai, Mae Hong Son and Mae Sariang. Pai is a particularly interesting place and felt it was worthy of a post all on its own. Once you arrive in Pai, It takes about 30 seconds to assess the vibe of the town – hippie, backpacker and chill. A really cool town.
Pai Canyon
Spending time at Pai Canyon was definitely the favourite part of my stay (but in a close race with looking at the view from my hotel balcony – the feature picture in this blog post). The canyon landscape was beautiful and was constantly changing colours as the sunset. I was very proud of myself for navigating some of the very narrow pathways (with very steep drop offs). I’ll let the pictures do the talking…

The Rest of Pai
So many other great things to see in Pai – and of course the usual waterfalls and temples (because it wouldn’t be Thailand without those)! Of particular note – the bamboo bridge which allowed you to walk amongst the rice fields – so chill, I could stare at them all day (which of course I did for a very long period of time 😂).

The rice fields are incredibly beautiful! Way to capture the majestic green!
So beautiful!!!!!
