Song of the Open RoadBecki's Travels Around the World

Good Morning Vietnam!

I’m in Vietnam…Country #3 and it marks the beginning of visits from friends from Canada and the US. With colder weather back home, it becomes the perfect time to visit me! First up – Chris and Peter have arrived, my foodie friends from Toronto. What do foodie friends do when then arrive in Hanoi? They of course take a walking food tour of the city! Known for its street food – we ate our way through chaotic Hanoi (yes, it is even crazier than Bangkok). Even for these seasoned travellers, we all experienced a bit of culture shock! Crossing the street becomes a survival game of dodging motorcycles and quickly realizing that there is no such thing as pedestrian right of way in this city!

The highlight of the evening was having cocktails at one of the cafes that backs out onto the train tracks to watch the trains go by. As you’ll probably notice in the video, safety standards are a little different in Vietnam than in North America 😂

Ninh Binh

This day trip outside of Hanoi was absolutely incredible – the beauty of the karst mountains was something pretty phenomenal. Hopefully the pictures and videos can capture a bit of it. We were rowed through a river and several caves for about 90 minutes – with jaw dropping scenery the entire way. Make sure you check out the video to see how they row…yup, with their feet!!! After being rowed around to see the views, we got to see the area from a different vantage point after climbing 500 stairs to get to the lookout point.
