Stuck on Luang Prabang

Time for friend visit #2 – woo hoo!! Lisa (friend and former Target Canada colleague) joined me for almost 2 weeks to enjoy an organized tour of Laos and Vietnam. Not gonna lie – was nice not having to plan all of the logistics and details for that stretch of time! Our time in Laos was spent in and around Luang Prabang – a city of which I had heard nothing but good things. And it definitely lived up to the hype!

Overlooking Luang Prabang

Luang Prabang

Without a doubt, the highlight of my time in Luang Prabang was waking up early to participate in the daily Alms Giving Ceremony. Locals and tourists line the Main Street in the old part of the city to hand out food to the Buddhist monks as they seek out their daily meal. The locals have made it easy for tourists to participate, providing us with the proper attire and food to hand out.

On the Mekong River & Outskirts of Luang Prabang

Our journeys also took us to some amazing locations outside of the city – whether it was to enjoy the turquoise blue waters of Kuang Si Falls, sailing on the Mekong River or Exploring the Pak Ou Caves. The Pak Ou Caves serves to house old or damaged Buddha statues – the result – a really cool experience of being surrounded by thousands of Buddha statues.
