Buddhas of Bangkok

Today (August 1st) is a very important National Holiday in Thailand. It is Asahna Bucha Day – when people pay homage to the Buddha & his teachings. So in celebration of today’s holiday, I am sharing some of my favourite Buddha images from my travels in and around Bangkok.

Ayutthaya (Ancient Thai Capital)

Ayutthaya was the second capital of Thailand between 1350 and 1767, until the Burmese invaded the city and burned it to the ground.

Jim Thompson’s House & The National Museum

Jim Thompson (silk baron) was a collector of Thai art and had an extensive collection of Buddha images in his home. The National Museum also had some incredible Buddhas.

The Grand Palace

The most famous Buddha at the Grand Palace (The Emerald Buddha) cannot be photographed. But here are a few others which could.

Your Birth Day Buddha Image

Depending on what day of the week you were born, there is a Buddha image associated with your birth day. In a way, it is similar to the English nursery rhyme that goes like this “Monday’s child is fair of face, Tuesday’s child is full of grace….”. The Buddha image that links to your day of birth also implies some characteristics about you as a person. To find out more about your image, click the button below.
