So when I wasn’t hanging out on the beach or by the pool (which was unapologetically the vast majority of my time on Koh Chang 😀) I did get the chance to explore some of the beautiful settings on the island. And my travels certainly continued with the predominant themes of temples, nature and waterways! Food is also known to sneak in there from time to time – haha.
Temples
We visited a local shrine where, once again, I got to seek out good luck for my journey. Your lucky number is determined by shaking the container of sticks until one falls out. Each stick has a number on it and there is a corresponding fortune for each number. Turns out I will marry a widower, so mom & dad get that dowry ready 😂!
Nature: Mangrove Forest
These adventures were part of a full day tour of the east side of the island (beaches were on the west side), and we had the opportunity to walk along a boardwalk through a mangrove forest, which took us to the edge of the sea. Whenever I am somewhere new, I will ask the guide the question – are there poisonous snakes in the area? The answer has usually been “no”, so I was surprised by his answer of “yes, we have king cobras – but don’t worry they are more scared of you, then you are of them”. I got our guide giggling with my response of “hmmm – not so sure that you and the cobra have any idea how truly scared I am of it”. 😳
Waterways: Traditional Thai Boat Ride
This next experience was truly special for me, and one of my top highlights while on the island – our tour group (me and a lovely family from Germany) embarked on a traditional Thai boat ride. The journey took us through another mangrove forest and onto a small lake – with only the sounds of nature, oars hitting the water and at one point the gentle drizzle of rain. Magical!!

love the song of the open road! I hope you are having a great time!
Dowry!!! LMAO.
Those mangroves look amazing!
How many bots will we need to marry you to this widower? Can two lowly pensioners afford such an extravagance?
