Bangkok is Foodie Heaven
Now with a few days under my belt in Bangkok…it was time to loosen that belt and go on a food tour. It was a food tour of Old Siam (aka Bangkok) and I ate and travelled like a local. Our sampling of 22 different dishes was enough to put me in a food coma by early afternoon and needless to say there was no need for dinner that evening. The 4 hour adventure had us travelling on a boat through the canals of the city, walking, riding tuk tuks and hopping a local bus – all in search of the best street food in the city. The added plus – I learned how to peel/eat some of the local fruit, which will come in handy when I hit up the grocery store for food.
Now today’s adventure was exploring the Chatuchak weekend market – the world’s largest open market, with its labyrinth of 15,000 stalls. Yep – pretty crazy! I strolled the aisles of stalls for 2 hours and still didn’t cover all of it. The highlight of the visit to the market was actually not the shopping – it was agreeing to be interviewed by 2 grade school girls doing a project for their English class. I am now immortalized forever on their video as the they peppered me with questions about my experiences in Thailand and giggled as I spoke the only 2 phrases that I currently know in Thai. In return they taught me a few new words in Thai and gave me a great tip to visit Pattaya – ok girls, I’ll put it on the list!!

Will you head back to the market again?
Definitely – but when it is time to buy souvenirs.
Have you heard about the soup which has been cooking for 50years?
Makes me feel something between scared and intrigued, but you’re clearly more courageous than me:

Oh that is cool – I hadn’t heard about it, but just looked it up. If I am ever in that part of the city I will definitely check it out and report back!!
What a great adventure!!! I’m sure you can’t wait to go back to that market!
Well we might need to hit that market before other adventures!
